(And Why It Might Be the Most Beautiful Time for Maternity Photos)
I didn’t take a babymoon before my babies were born.
Honestly, I don’t think I even realised it was something you could do, this idea of stepping away for a few quiet days before two becomes three… or three becomes four.
Not because life is about to become chaotic, not because everything shifts overnight in some dramatic way.
But because it does change.
There’s a gentle reordering, a new little person who will take up space in your arms and in your conversations and in the shape of your days.
And looking back, I often think how beautiful it would have been to leave the washing in the basket, close the front door, and go somewhere with my husband before that shift happened. Just some time away together before it all changes.
In some ways, it’s like a honeymoon, but the other way around. Instead of leaving straight after your wedding, you’re stepping away before your baby arrives. A quiet pause before your family grows.
If it’s your first baby, it’s a chance to sit together and imagine who this little person might be and enjoy being pregnant. If it’s your second or third, it might be one of the last times it’s just the two of you for a while (while someone baby sits your kiddies!).
And here’s something many mums don’t always consider, that slow, away-from-home space you book for your babymoon, it can be the most beautiful time to have your maternity photos taken.
Not squeezed between errands, not rushed after work.
But while you’re already relaxed, almost like a quiet, “let’s do this for us” moment, a small treat while you’re away, and something you’ll hold onto long after the getaway is over.
Because years from now, those images won’t just remind you of your bump.
They’ll remind you of who you were together, right before everything gently changed.

Byfield Babymoon Accommodation (Rainforest Retreats Near Yeppoon)
If you’re searching for babymoon accommodation near Yeppoon but craving quiet, Byfield is something else entirely.
It’s only a short drive from the coast, but it feels like you’ve stepped into another world, rainforest air, creeks to swim in if that's your thing, filtered light through tall trees. I love driving out to Byfield and watching the environment change from the coast into beautiful farm land then tall forests.
I regularly travel to Byfield for sessions, especially creek and rainforest maternity photos. The light is moody, soft and deeply flattering.
If you’re already staying out here, we can meet at the creek or a nearby rainforest pocket and create something that feels honest and calm, not staged, not rushed.
If you’re planning a Byfield babymoon, these are my favourite places for maternity photography near Yeppoon.
Getaways at Byfield
Private rainforest cabins that feel tucked away from everything. Ideal if you’re wanting seclusion and proper rest before your baby arrives.
Ferns Hideaway Resort
Relaxed, comfortable cabins surrounded by greenery. The kind of place where you can sit outside and do absolutely nothing, and feel good about it. At Ferns hideaway their is a restaurant and activities to do on the grounds. They have canadian kayaks (which I secretly think would look amazing in photos... a bit like a scene from the Notebook).
Byfield Cabins
Couples-only and beautifully quiet. A grounding place to connect before your family grows.
Great Keppel Island Babymoon (Island Maternity Photography Option)
If you’ve been Googling Great Keppel Island babymoon ideas, you’re probably dreaming of blue island water and white sand. Is their a better place other than our Great Keppel Island? If you’re staying at the Hideaway or an Airbnb on the island, we can meet at one of the local beaches for a Great Keppel Island maternity photography session during your babymoon. A beautiful way to remember your pregnancy but also your babymoon, that time alone together as a couple.
Great Keppel Island Hideaway
Laid-back beachfront accommodation that keeps things simple and relaxed. It’s sandy feet, early sunsets and long walks along the shoreline. I have stayed here myself in one of the beach front cabins, and it would be the perfect spot for a babymoon. Literally meters from the beautiful beach but also has aircon (yes) and a fridge to keep your snacks (yes).
What many mums don’t realise is, I can travel to Great Keppel Island for maternity sessions. Please give me an excuse to get out there!!
If you’re making the effort to go to Keppel before your baby arrives, adding a maternity session there turns your getaway into something that becomes part of your family history. We can have an early sunrise session on the beach while the sun comes up or a glorious sunset maternity photoshoot in the water, so many options!
Yeppoon Babymoon Accommodation (Coastal Getaways Close to Home)

If you’re wanting a Yeppoon babymoon without travelling far, staying local can be just as beautiful.
Villa Mar Colina
Elevated coastal views and comfortable spaces to unwind. Perfect if accessibility and comfort are top priorities in your third trimester and you are nice and close to all our beautiful restauraunts and cafes along James street.
Eagle Ridge Retreat
Perched high above the coastline, Eagle Ridge Retreat Yeppoon feels like a gentle exhale before everything changes. With sweeping ocean views and soft coastal light pouring through the windows, it is the kind of place that invites you to slow down, to rest, to reconnect, and to savour these final weeks before your baby arrives.
For a babymoon, it offers privacy and comfort while still being only minutes from Yeppoon’s beaches and cafés if you feel like an easy outing. And for maternity photographs, the setting is incredibly special, with open skies, golden sunsets, rolling hills and sea views creating a timeless backdrop for this fleeting season. It is relaxed, intimate and deeply romantic, the kind of space where you can simply be together and have this chapter of your story documented in a way that feels natural and meaningful. We could do a maternity photoshoot on the property relaxing in the beautiful setting or head down to one of the local beaches (or both).
The Lookout Woodbury
Tucked into a peaceful hilltop setting with sweeping views from the Byfield Ranges out over Corio Bay, Five Rocks and the Keppel Islands, The Lookout Woodbury offers a truly dreamy escape just a short 12-minute drive north of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast. The self-contained chalet is warm and welcoming, with big “picture” windows that frame the beauty outside and invite you to linger over sunrise coffee or watch the sunset paint the sky. Inside, you’ll find all the comforts you need, a well-equipped kitchen, plush king bed, quirky loft nook and a luxurious bathroom, while the surrounding landscape makes you feel wonderfully connected to both nature and the vibrant region just moments away.
If You’re Planning a Babymoon Near Yeppoon or Byfield…
And you’d love maternity photos that feel calm, connected and true to you, I’d love to meet you there.
Whether it’s rainforest, cabin or Stoney Creek in Byfield, a beach in Yeppoon, or beautiful Great Keppel Island, I am there for it.
Just you and your partner, before everything changes.
