Should I book newborn photos?

Newborn being held by his father during in-home newborn photography session in Rockhampton

I hear this question a lot, but it’s usually not said out loud.

It sounds more like:

“I don’t think I’ll bother.”

“I’ll just use my phone.”

“Maybe next time…”

And honestly… I get it.

Because right now, you’re already trying to figure out so much.

You’re organising a cot, washing tiny clothes, buying nappies, wondering what you actually need and what you don’t…and doing it all while stepping into something completely new.

So when newborn photos come up, it can feel like just another thing to organise, another job on a list that already feels full.

But this part can actually be simple

You don’t need to have a plan (I do that).

You don’t need to know how it’s going to look or what you’re doing yet.

You can just reach out.

If you’re based in Rockhampton or Yeppoon, I’ll pencil something in around your due date, and that’s it, it’s taken care of, just like that.

“I’ll just take photos on my phone”

And you will.

Little snapshots here and there.

But your phone can’t quite hold onto things the same way, the tiny flakes of skin on their fingers, the tiny hairs on their arms and back that feel like soft down. The tiny wrinkles in their little feet.

Those little details, the ones that change first, they’re the ones that quietly disappear.

And something else I see, over and over again…

Mums aren’t in the photos.

You might have a few quick selfies, or a blurry one someone else took.

But the breastfeeding moments…the way they look up at you…how you hold them without even thinking…

Those are the moments you’re living every day, and the ones you’ll have the least of later.

You don’t have to feel ready

This is the part I wish more mums knew.

You don’t need to:

  • tidy your whole house

  • have a perfect routine

  • feel confident in your body

  • or plan everything out

You don’t even need to know how it’s going to go.

You just need to be there.

I’ll gently guide everything, I’ll move things around if I need to (I have been known to move some furniture to be near a beautiful window)

There’s no rush, we go slowly, we follow your baby and their needs.

If they need to feed, we pause, if they need to be held, that’s where the magic is anyway.

It’s always relaxed, always comfortable.

The part most people don’t think about

The easiest time to organise newborn photos is actually before your baby arrives.

Not because you need to have everything planned but because it’s one less thing to think about later.

If you’re in Rockhampton or Yeppoon and thinking about newborn photos, you can book in advance and we’ll adjust the date once your baby is here.

So when those early days come, you’re not trying to organise anything.

You just show up.

Will you regret booking them?

I’ve never had a mum tell me she wished she didn’t do newborn photos.

Not once.

But I have had so many say they wish they hadn’t talked themselves out of it.

That they wish they had something to hold onto from those early days that felt like such a blur.

So… should you book newborn photos?

Only if you want to remember this.

Not perfectly, not posed or polished, just honestly.

The next step

If you’ve been thinking about newborn photos in Rockhampton or Yeppoon, you don’t have to figure it all out today.

You can just reach out, even if you’re still unsure.

We can keep it simple from there 🤍
