Meet Sarah Joy
Rockhampton & Yeppoon Family & Lifestyle Photographer

Hi, I'm Sarah Joy,
If you’re here, you’re probably not just looking for photos.
You’re wanting something that feels real.
Something that actually means something.
I get that, because that’s exactly why I started.
Like so many mums, my journey into photography started with my own children.
I became a mother and suddenly felt time speeding up in a way I wasn’t prepared for. I watched my kids grow in front of me and it honestly shook me, how quickly phases passed, how easily moments blurred into the next.
I knew, deep in my bones, that I would never regret having photos of them.
Especially photos of me with them.
My motherhood. My place in their story.
But what I craved went beyond smiling-at-the-camera moments. I wanted the intimacy of it all remembered.
I wanted photos of me holding my daughter, her bare little body pressed against me, because that closeness meant something.
I wanted photos of me breastfeeding my baby girl, because I knew I would never get that time back, and I didn’t want it to quietly disappear from my memory.
With my son, I wanted photos of him wrapped tightly around me, arms firm and certain, because I know there will come a day when he won’t hug me like that anymore.
And that thought made those moments feel sacred.
I wanted the rawness of early motherhood remembered.
Not styled, not rushed, just honest.
But when I went looking for a photographer in Rockhampton and Yeppoon who could capture that kind of connection, I struggled to find what I was craving.
Not because there weren’t talented photographers, but because I couldn’t find someone who worked the way I felt.
So slowly, without really realising it at first… I became that photographer.

The way I photograph now
Today, I’m a Rockhampton family photographer and Yeppoon newborn, maternity and family photographer, working with families who want more than ordinary photos.
A big part of my work is gently encouraging women to step into the frame, not just for their children, but for themselves, they deserve to be remembered with care.
I photograph families who are drawn to images with depth, photos that feel layered, thoughtful, and intentional.
That doesn’t mean everything has to be big or adventurous.
It just means nothing is done without purpose.
As a Rockhampton and Yeppoon photographer, I guide you through every part of your session so it feels simple and supported.
We choose your location intentionally, whether that’s somewhere meaningful to you, somewhere outdoors along the Capricorn Coast, or a quiet, open space that allows you to slow down.
I guide you with clothing so everything feels cohesive and natural, not overdone.
And the way we move through your session is just as considered, slow where it needs to be, playful when it wants to be, always led by connection rather than expectation.
Sometimes that looks like climbing a hill at sunrise or wandering through the bush before ending up in the creek.
Sometimes it looks like barefoot kids in long grass, or quiet moments at home where nothing is forced.
What matters most
What matters most to me, as a Rockhampton motherhood photographer, is that when you look back at your images, they tell a story about who your family actually is, not just what you looked like.
These aren’t just family photos in Rockhampton or Yeppoon.
They’re part of your family history.
Yes, the photos are beautiful, but the beauty comes from the meaning, not instead of it.
An invitation
If you’ve been thinking about booking a family photographer in Rockhampton or Yeppoon, even just in the back of your mind, you don’t have to have it all figured out.
You don’t need perfectly behaved kids, you don’t need the “right” house or the “right” time. You just need to be willing to show up as you are.
I’ll guide you through the rest.
Thanks for being here. I can’t wait to meet you.
I share a lot of behind-the-scenes moments and session stories on my blog, so feel free to explore if you're curious!
