When Should You Book Your Newborn Photos?

There’s a window, in those early newborn days, where everything feels both slow and impossibly fleeting at the same time.
You’re tired, you’re adjusting, you’re learning this new little person while holding onto pieces of who you were before.
And somewhere in the middle of that, the thought of organising photos can feel… like too much.
So the practical answer first, because I know that’s what most people are searching for:
When should you book your newborn photos?
The best time to book your newborn session is while you’re still pregnant!! Don't rely on future you, because she is tired!
This means:
You’re not trying to organise it in the fog of those early weeks
I can reserve space around your due date
We can plan something that feels calm and easy
Once baby arrives, we simply choose a day that works for you, no pressure. We have already prepared for this and all I have to do now is turn up!

Newborn sessions with me aren’t about capturing a “perfect” baby at a specific age. They’re about documenting this season as it is, whether that’s at day 2, 7 days or 5 weeks.
But here’s the part that doesn’t get searched, and matters just as much.
“I don’t feel like myself right now”
I was sitting at lunch with a group of mums recently, and one of them shared something that stayed with me.
She said after her baby was born, she didn’t feel good in her body at all. She felt uncomfortable, unfamiliar, not like herself, and she almost didn’t book newborn photos because of it.
But she did.
And now, when she looks back at those images, she doesn’t see what she saw in the mirror at the time.
She sees strength.
She sees what her body carried and created.
She sees herself holding her baby in those first weeks, and instead of judgement, she feels respect.
Her words were, “Thank goodness I did it, because I see those photos so differently now.”
We are so much harsher on ourselves than we realise
So many mums tell me they want to wait until they “feel better” in their body.
But the truth is, that feeling doesn’t arrive in a neat, predictable way.
And those early weeks? They don’t wait.
Your baby won’t be that small again. They won’t curl into you in quite the same way. That version of you, right at the beginning of motherhood (or growing your family again) quietly changes.
What these photos really become
Right now, it might feel like you’re just trying to get through the day.
But later, these images become something else entirely.
They become:
proof that you were there, not just behind the camera
a way for your children to see how you held them
a reminder of a version of yourself you might not fully recognise yet
Not because everything was perfect, but because it was real.

You don’t need to feel “ready”
You don’t need to:
lose the baby weight
feel confident in your body
have everything under control
You just need to show up, as you are.
I’ll guide you gently, I will be kind, I will notice the moments that matter, and I will create space for you to simply be with your baby.
If you’re thinking about booking, the best thing you can do is reach out while you’re pregnant, even if you’re unsure.
We’ll keep it simple, we’ll keep it flexible.
And one day, you’ll have these images to look back on, not with judgement, but with a kind of softness and respect you might not feel just yet.
