Things to do with kids in Yeppoon - a local family guide

If you’re looking for things to do with kids in Yeppoon, these are the places our family returns to again and again. Not the big, flashy attractions, but the everyday outings that slow us down and bring us together. From big swims at the lagoon to quiet beach mornings and island days, Yeppoon has a way of turning ordinary family time into memories that last.

Big Swims at the Yeppoon Lagoon

Ice cream optional. Baby chino encouraged.

The Yeppoon Lagoon is our go-to for big swims. The kind where kids come home wrinkly, exhausted, and completely content.

It works for all ages. Toddlers, big kids, siblings at different stages. Some days are all about the water. Other days include a baby chino or ice cream from The Rocks Kiosk

Those small extras often become part of the memory. Sticky hands, sun-warmed skin, kids who do not want to leave just yet.

Splash Fun at the Keppel Kraken

A short walk from the lagoon, the Keppel Kraken is pure joy for kids.

Climbing, splashing, laughing, getting soaked. It is one of those places where kids make instant friends and parents get to stand back and watch the fun unfold.

No pressure. No expectations. Just movement, noise, and happy chaos. Sometimes we go to "the goon (Yeppoon Lagoon)" and then walk over to the Kraken for some splash fun.

Fish and Chips for Lunch

After Yeppoon Lagoon or The Kraken, walk over the road to Seagulls Fish & Chips

Seagulls is a favourite. Unfussy, simple, reliable, and perfect for sharing. Eaten from paper, often barefoot, sometimes with sand still clinging to ankles.

These are the meals that stick in your memory because everyone was relaxed enough to enjoy them.

Coffee for Mum and Dad at Lure Living

Good coffee matters, especially on family days.

Lure is our stop for that moment of pause (especially considering it's straight over the road from Keppel Kraken). Out the back they have a tiny little play area for the kids (your welcome)

Cooberrie Park

Cooberie Park Wildlife Sanctuary is super fun with the kids. They have two sections, a dinosaur walk that feels like Jurassic Park or an animal section where you can feed the animals. In the dinosaur walk, at the end there is a sandpit with dinosaur bones buried, it's so fun for the kids to pretend they are palaeontologists as they dig up those bones with supplied brushes.

Open space and plenty to do, we use it as a special occasion with the kids

Rockpools and Beach Wandering

Some days are for slowing right down.

Farnborough, Kemp Beach, and Lammermoor all offer something different, but all invite a gentler pace and have some great tidal rockpools to explore.

Morning Coffee and a Swim at Cooee Bay

with coffee from Two Sisters Coffee, a big open cafe with lawn and plenty of space for the kids to run.

Cooee Bay Beach is small, calm, and quietly beautiful.

A morning coffee from Two Sisters followed by a swim across the road feels simple in the best way. It is perfect for early starts, little kids, and days that do not need to go anywhere fast.

A Day Trip to Great Keppel Island

Ferry rides, exploring, and lunch at The Hideaway

Catching the ferry to Great Keppel Island always feels like an adventure.

Exploring, swimming, wandering, and stopping for lunch at The Hideaway

These days stay with kids. Not because they were extravagant, but because they felt different and shared.

Walks Along Lammermoor Beach

The walking path behind Lammermoor Beach is a favourite.

Some days we ride bikes, other days we push the pram with our dog. Always lined with coconut palms and ocean air. It is an easy, pram-friendly track that suits every stage of family life. Finish up with a swim at Lammermoor or an explore in the rockpools, can't go wrong.

Bakery Treats from Baked on 44

No Yeppoon day feels complete without a bakery stop.

Baked on 44 on James Street is a favourite for treats on the go. Something sweet, something savoury, and a little negotiating between kids about who chose what. Don't go home without a sourdough in hand, or a coffee from the Attic next door!

A Quiet Reset at the Yeppoon Library

The Yeppoon Library is genuinely special.

A calm place to slow everything down. To read, rest, and reset. Perfect for kids who need a quieter moment and parents who do too.

Things to do in Yeppoon with kids - Why These Places Matter

None of these outings are extraordinary on their own (or maybe they are).

Together, they make up childhood.

These are the places where kids grow and where parents quietly notice time moving faster than expected. That is why families choose to document life here, not because it is perfect, but because it is theirs.

Looking for a Yeppoon Family Photographer?

If these places feel familiar, your story is already worth remembering.

One day, these ordinary Yeppoon days will be the ones your children talk about most.
