A Colourful, Creative Maternity Session at Home in Yeppoon
Maternity photos don’t have to mean a flowing dress, a beach at sunset or standing in a field with your hands carefully placed around your belly.
They can be colourful, playful and exciting! I looooooove when people come to me with ideas that are a little bit different. Or come to me wanting something a little bit different and letting me roll with my imagination and creative process.
For this creative maternity session in Yeppoon, that was exactly what we did.
Mum was pregnant with baby number three, with two little girls already filling her days. Instead of trying to strip all of that away to create something that didn't feel like real life, we made it part of the photographs.
Because this wasn’t only about documenting a pregnant belly, it was embracing motherhood and enjoying some time together.
A Creative Maternity Session That Felt Like Her
We photographed this maternity session at home, which gave us the freedom to slow down and create something a little different. This family loves arts and crafts, naturally we went that direction with our creative thinking.
One of my favourite parts was using colourful gems across Mum’s skin and pregnant belly. They brought this playful, feminine feeling to the photographs and turned something as simple as a maternity portrait into something completely her own.
There was colour, bare skin, little hands. Two curious girls wanting to be part of what Mum was doing and decorating their baby brother.
And plenty of fun amongst it all.
Creative maternity photography doesn’t need to feel complicated or overly styled. Sometimes one idea is enough. We can take that idea, play with it and see where it leads without losing the connection underneath it.
That connection is always the part I’m looking for.

In-home maternity photography isn't about photographing a perfect house. It's about giving you somewhere familiar to settle into. In this home, we stuck in one little corner, because we didn't need to move! So much light and colour all in the one spot was all we needed.
Home gives children space to be themselves, they can wander away and come back. They can cuddle Mum on the bed, climb into her lap, get distracted, make everyone laugh and then suddenly give you the biggest smile.
Being at home also gives us more freedom to create intimate maternity photographs without feeling exposed in a public location. We can photograph your belly, your body and the details of pregnancy privately, while still making room for the louder, more playful photographs with your children.
For mums who want something personal, relaxed or a little more creative, an in-home maternity session can be a beautiful fit.
